Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Chipp Studio OÜ handles information when you use Nota, our website, and related support channels.
Nota is designed as a private AI audio notes app. The core experience is local-first: you can record voice notes, import audio, create transcripts, and review notes without creating a Nota account. Some optional features, such as cloud AI processing and iCloud sync, use third-party services as described below.
Operator
Nota is operated by Chipp Studio OÜ, an Estonian company.
You can contact us at info@chippstudio.ee.
Information You Create In Nota
Nota may store the content you create or import, including recordings, typed notes, transcripts, summaries, action points, key moments, Smart Notes, assistant prompts, and assistant responses.
By default, this content is stored on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, your Nota data may sync through your Apple iCloud account so it can be available across your Apple devices. iCloud is provided by Apple and is governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
Local Processing
Nota uses on-device processing where available, including on-device audio transcription. Local processing helps keep recordings and note content on your device unless you choose a feature that requires cloud processing or syncing.
Some local AI components or transcription models may need to be downloaded before they can run on your device. Downloading a model may involve a request to Chipp Studio or a hosting provider, but the local transcription process itself runs on your device.
Optional Cloud AI Processing
Some features may use cloud AI processing, especially for longer recordings, more complex recordings, Smart Notes, or assistant requests that you choose to process in the cloud.
When you use a cloud AI feature, the content needed to complete your request may be sent to OpenAI through the OpenAI API. This may include audio, transcripts, note text, prompts, generated outputs, and technical metadata needed to provide the feature.
OpenAI states that API data is not used to train or improve OpenAI models by default unless the API customer explicitly opts in. OpenAI may retain certain API data for abuse monitoring and service operation as described in its data controls documentation. You can read more at OpenAI API data controls.
App Store Purchases And Subscriptions
Nota is distributed through the Apple App Store. Purchases, subscriptions, renewals, refunds, and payment details are handled by Apple.
We may receive purchase-related information needed to unlock subscriptions, AI Credits, and other entitlements, such as product identifiers, transaction status, renewal status, and purchase history. We do not receive your full payment card details from Apple.
Analytics And Diagnostics
Nota may collect analytics and diagnostic information that is not linked to your identity, such as product interaction, feature usage, purchase-related events, crash data, performance data, app version, device type, and operating system version.
We use this information to understand how Nota is used, improve reliability, fix bugs, and decide what to improve next. We do not use this data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Nota uses TelemetryDeck and Amplitude for product analytics. These services help us understand feature usage, reliability, and product performance so we can improve Nota. You can read their privacy policies at telemetrydeck.com/privacy and amplitude.com/privacy.
Notifications
If Nota offers notifications and you enable them, the app may use a device notification token so notifications can be delivered. You can disable notifications in your device settings.
How We Use Information
We use information only as needed to:
- provide Nota and its features;
- process recordings, notes, transcripts, summaries, action points, Smart Notes, and assistant requests;
- manage subscriptions, AI Credits, and App Store entitlements;
- sync data when you enable iCloud sync;
- respond to support requests;
- monitor reliability, diagnose crashes, and improve the product;
- protect Nota, users, and our legal rights.
Sharing Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only when needed to operate Nota, including with Apple for App Store distribution, purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and iCloud sync; OpenAI for optional cloud AI processing; TelemetryDeck and Amplitude for analytics; service providers that help us host, support, or operate Nota; or authorities when required by law.
Retention And Deletion
Content stored locally in Nota remains on your device unless you delete it or remove the app. Content synced through iCloud is controlled through your Apple account and device settings.
Cloud AI requests are processed by the provider used for that feature and may be retained according to that provider’s terms, privacy policy, and data controls. Support messages may be retained as long as needed to respond to you, maintain business records, and meet legal obligations.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, including if you are in the European Economic Area, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of personal data, and to request a portable copy of personal data.
To make a privacy request, contact us at info@chippstudio.ee. We may need to verify your request before responding.
International Transfers
Chipp Studio OÜ is based in Estonia. Some providers we use may process information in other countries. When information is transferred internationally, we rely on applicable legal safeguards and the terms of the providers involved.
Children
Nota is not intended to collect personal information from children without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
